Boiled Crustaceans and a Bottle of White

July 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Two things I have wanted to do since moving to the Pacific North West:

1. Go crabbing

2. Visit the Olympic Peninsula

This weekend I accomplished them both! You see, my friend Jacob owns a crab pot. (If you’ve never seen one, check this out!) So off we went…my sis and Ian, Maria and Devon, Jacob, Meredith and me…to go on a crabbing expedition on the Olympic Peninsula. Check out the slide show below by clicking on it.

Camping and Crabbing

We spent most the afternoon Saturday baiting the trap with stinking left-over fish scraps we picked up from the grocery store before leaving Seattle. We had a couple shrimp pots too…and within a couple hours we had hauled up a good 5 pounds of shrimp and four lovely Red Rock crabs!

We set up camp on a bluff overlooking Victoria Island and set to work killing and cleaning the crab. With shallot butter, salad, crusty bread and a lovely bottle of wine…We made good work of those tasty little crustaceans! And truly, it was the most delicious sea food I have ever tasted!

Little Bed Bugs

This past weekend I jaunted over to Colorado Springs to continue getting to know the folks at Mountain Springs Church in Colorado Springs. It was a lovely weekend of talking to people and being the only woman in a sari!

I stayed with the Weils again. My little buddy Jay (their 7 year old son) and I bonded one morning as he cracked my door open around 6:30 and said “um…Miss Lauren?…Can I sleep with you?” Considering he’s a chatterbox and I wasn’t quite awake I asked him one question…”Are you sure you’re going to sleep?” “Of course!!” he answered as he hopped into the queen sized bed and made himself comfy. And he kept his word! He didn’t make a peep! I must have fallen back asleep because I never heard him leave, but he was gone when I woke up again.

Picknicking with the Weils at Garden of the Gods after the Missions Expo weekend. (Here you see my little bed bug and Dema. Chris is behind the camera.)

The joys of making new friends!

Who is my Jesus?

July 2, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This Sunday Pastor Mark preached on Jesus…as He is today. High and exalted, seated on a throne, reigning in perfect justice over a Kingdom of perfect peace. We get this picture in Revelation chapter 19 of Jesus, whose name is Faithful and True, riding a white horse with his eyes blazing like fire! He’s got many crowns on His head, His robe is white and dipped in blood and He’s backed by an army. A sword comes out of his mouth and “King of Kings, and Lord of Lords” is tatooed down his thigh! In righteousness He judges and wages war!

Now if someone says “Jesus” to me, the above paragraph is not the image in my mind. Rather, I picture a humble man with flowing hair walking around barefoot and telling stories no one quite gets. I think my Jesus needs to change to reflect the reality of who He is, where He is, and what He’s up to now. Lord, help me get it right.
